Galvanized Metal Baskets

This just in:

I finally hemmed the curtains I started last November!

(Please forgive me for these bad + dark photos.)

You may very well be asking,

“YAWN, Kay!  Curtain hems!?  Who cares?” . . .

. . . but we procrastinators know that completing one’s projects is a big deal!

I want to sew a tartan plaid bed skirt (stay tuned!), you see . . .

. . . but I forced myself to finish the curtains first.

+ + + + +

Anyway, speaking of completing tasks, our kitchen re-do is back ON!

This has happened:

Galvanized baskets!

The cabinet that G.O. had installed beside the range was too narrow + deep,

+ thus, a tad too dysfunctional.

This had me thinking of baskets in cubbies, instead!

Initially, I wanted woven baskets, like these:

However, when my online search for baskets took me to these

from World Market, I was totally smitten!

Only $14.99 for the small?  I’m in!

The website sez that these are NEW,

but that they are sold out online + available in stores only.

We had to drive to 2 different World Markets to find our 3,

but it was worth it, in my opinion!

I feared that, in person, they might look cheapie + bad,

but they don’t, + I love them!

Disclaimer: we still need a toe kick here.

+ + + + +

Suddenly, the blank wall next to our stove is calling out for open shelving.

Funny how that happens.

I am thinking galvanized metal, + here’s why:

Notice how our new galvanized baskets play so nicely

with the handles of our stove + the Kitchen Aide mixing bowl:

I’m loving the continuity,

so off, I go, on yet another online search, for metal shelving!

Turns out, my 3 finalists are all from Pottery Barn.

 Or these, with painted metal:

I think I will wait to decide,

once our range hood is (finally) installed.

Stay tuned!

Wicker + Bench Dining Room Trends

So.  Yesterday I mentioned that our new house dining room

will be half dining + half home office.

Let’s discuss the dining half, shall we?

We’ll have a round table here in the window bay:

My inspiration:

dining room table round in bay

While these  homeowners chose to a build window seat,

I’d like to opt for a bench in our window bay.

I think that’s a ‘thing’ now.

See for yourself,

in my own dining room (from a while ago):

And in this oh-so Scandinavian room:

I like the office chair at one end of the table, too + might ‘borrow’ that idea.

Next up, another dining bench in a glam** dining room:

**Glam is not my favorite décor style.

* * *

This, on the other hand, is more like it:

Southern Living

Southern Living

I’m a fan of the striped upholstery,  the modern pendant + papered accent wall.

Notice please, the wicker dining chairs.

This, too, is a ‘thing’.

I’d kill for that ^^ table.

Pottery Barn

Pottery Barn

I love the work of the Pottery Barn stylists, don’t you?

* * *

Look closely at the lower front of these wicker beauties:

Is that a number I see?

Okay, now my head is spinning with inspiration!

What on earth did we do before Pinterest?

* * *

So.  Let’s recap.

I’ve been musing about the following 2 décor trends:

1. Dining bench + 2. Wicker dining seating

Well, coincidentally, my plans include using both  trends in 1 piece of furniture!

A wicker bench!

This is the Himara All-Weather Wicker Wingback Settee

from World Market.

Was $349.99  Now $244.99

I’m seeing some ticking stripes on the cushions in our dining room.

Look at those lines!  I love it!

A wingback can’t get much more traditional,

+ the wicker makes it a little more modern!

So, what do you think of my wicker hopes + dreams?

I think I’d like to save myself a $35 delivery charge

by finding it in a World Market store!

Road trip!  Stay tuned!

I Want A German Beer Garden Table!

Today it’s damp + cold, our furnace is roaring + I’m sportin’ a cardigan.

I am not amused, but let’s think summer anyway, shall we?

First up:

for alfresco dining at the Dutch colonial,

I want this from World Market:

484559_*BEER_GARDEN_TBLE_BLUE________ 484556_BEER_GARDEN_BENCH_RED_________

It’s  a replica of an old German beer garden/hall table.

Red = perfect!

It’s collapsible, too,

which means easy winter storage!

The table is $229.99, + each bench costs $139.95.

Keep those prices in mind.

First, let’s take a look-see at couple of vintage beer garden/hall tables:

Don’t you love the way it’s so slim?

One could put this in one’s small space — no problem!

Meanwhile, here’s another:

Um.  Check out the price of the old versus the new knock-off.

$425 for the vintage set

Approximately $510 (before shipping!) for the knock-off!

I could write an entire post about buying vintage instead of reproductions.

Stay tuned for that.

Here’s what you need to know:

Three Potato Four

is a crazy good online source for all things vintage!

Go here, now!

You’re welcome.

Red Leather Chair Obsession

Have you ever seen The Essentials on TCM?

TCM robert osborneTCM drew barrymore

Its current hosts, Robert Osborne + Drew Barrymore,

sit opposite each other in a pair of groovy, red leather chairs . . .

. . . about which I am crazily obsessed.

I failed when I searched for a photo of the set

+ those fabulous red chairs, to share with the class (darn!),

but this should give you an idea of their awesomeness:

I KNOW.  Swoon-worthy!

More about them + my obsession in just a sec.

TCM hosts of the essntials -- with alec

Alec Baldwin co-hosted from 2009-2011.
He’s back Monday night, January 6, 2014
to interview host Robert Osborne.
That’s MUST-WATCH TV when you’re me!

FYI:  The Essentials is a weekly film showcase,

airing on TCM on Saturday nights at 7 p.m. CST.

It spotlights a specific classic movie

+ contains a special introduction + post-movie discussion.

I couldn’t love it more.

* * * *
But back to my obsessions the chairs.

I spied this red leather beauty — the Mason — on World Market’s website,

when I was enjoying a bit of online shopping, way back in October.

I blogged about said-same, ’cause that’s how I roll:

* * * *

Anyway, I had another look-see just this past week,

+ the Mason is on sale for $279.99, down from an original $399.99!

Sure, there’s also a pesky $80 shipping surcharge

(per chair!!?? — I s’poze!!??) . . .

. . . but I thought maybe I could locate a couple

(fingers crossed!)

in one of World Market’s stores in the Chicagoland area,

shove them inside my Volvo wagon + save myself $160.

It’s worth a try, no?

red leather chair -- take 2 -- #3

Just thinking about having a pair of red leather chairs

makes me just as happy as can be, + personally, I think I deserve them!

That’s a LOT of pillows to sew (lil’ mama’s source of income),

+ I’m really not sure if I should splurge!
